Free Wi-Fi for AT&T’s LaptopConnect customers

AT&T's LaptopConnect customers who pay more than $60 a month on wireless data services will be able to access the 17,000 AT&T Wi-Fi hot spots completely free of charge. While it might seem an oxymoron to invest in both wireless technologies and cellular ones such as its EDGE and 3G network, the idea is that Wi-Fi can better serve customers who are in locations or buildings where call service is spotty. Wi-Fi is also faster than cellular data at this point in time. The announcement is significant because it shows that AT&T is prepared to allow customers to pick the network that they want.

For more on free Wi-Fi by AT&T:
- check out the Computerworld article
