HTC Diamond coming May 6th

So, we can just about confirm that HTC's newest touchscreen phone, the Diamond, is going to be announced on May 6th. The thing is, we have no idea what the Diamond is. HTC has sent out media invites for a press conference to be held in London on the 6th, where press and analysts will "[w]itness the next wave of HTC innovation." According to the Taipei Times, HTC exec Cheng Hui-Ming told analysts that he expects the company's revenues to increase some 20 percent this year, thanks to the Diamond, which he dubs "the most important product for HTC this year," adding that "[w]ith this phone, we're confident of landing orders from most major operators." At the moment, the rumored specs peg the Diamond as a 3G device running Windows Mobile 6.1, with a large touchscreen, though no one is really sure what it looks like. We have, however, been seeing a few mysterious devices showing up in HTC spy shots as of late, so it could turn out to be something that we've previously seen. Might there be a new premiere Windows Mobile device next week?

For more on the Diamond:
- see this Taipei Times report

Dual-mode phones take a step ahead

The recent Consumer Electronics Show out in Vegas was heaven for any user who loves new mobile wireless toys. And while not every new innovation is built for enterprise users--or would prove invaluable to road warriors--the slew of new devices offers an exciting view into what's coming to market. One innovative device is the dual-mode phone, which allows users to move between cellular service and WiFi networks. The lone caveat is the high price point still in play. Article

The best thing about technology, for many, is that it's never stagnant. Personally, I love the fact that technology is ever evolving, and I'm always eager to read about the latest and greatest, the new innovation or the improved service or feature a product is now offering. That's why I kept checking out the gadgets on display at the recent CTIA show, and why one of my favorite articles covering the show is a ComputerWorld piece on the new gadgets hitting the market. Imagine, for example, a cell phone headset that also doubles as a stereo music headset. When a call comes in the phone actually puts the music on hold so you can answer with ease. Then there's the JX10 Bluetooth headset from Jabra, which won the Wireless Emerging Technologies Award at the show. Extremely petite, weighing in at less than an ounce, it automatically adjusts sound volume in noisy situations. Pretty cool stuff.
