In what could eventually have a paradigm-changing effect on the kinds of displays that are used on mobile gadgets, Casio has unveiled the sharpest display panel ever produced. Measuring just two inches diagonally, the hyper amorphous silicon LCD manages to cram an astounding 960x540 pixel resolution, with a dot pitch of just 15.5 microns. The result is an incredibly dense display of 546 pixels per inch (PPI), which is far in excess of other displays on the market. Indeed, Casio claims that the breakthrough comes at little sacrifice to other areas; images are rendered in a complete 16.7 million colors, as well as with a 160-degree viewing arc. It will be interesting to see if such dense displays will herald the creation of previously unimagined gadgets in the future.
